Ask A Plumber

1.

What Does a sump pump do?

Sump pumps remove the water from the exterior of your home. The pump it self sits in a basket usually located in a corner in your basement or crawl space. The basket is tied in to a drainage system that collects the ground water from you foundation and walls. The Pump discharges the water to the city storm system or direct out to prevent flooding.

2.

My pump seems to be working but the water will not go down?

The float switch is usually bad in this situation. Check to see if it is hanging up on something or is stuck in place.

3.

What is the pip lining and is this an option for me?

Depending on the situation and the type of break in the system, we can help verify this with a camera inspection and help you decide what is best for you.

4.

What do i do if the sewer break is under the street of driveway?

In this situation we suggest a liner. This option can save any concrete repair and help you keep down some of your cost.

5.

Why am i running out of hot water faster than normal?

This is usually due to a bad dip tube. A dip tube is a tube located on the cold inlet side of your water heater. It distributes the cold water to the bottom of the tank. When the tube is bad the water is distributed throughout the entire tank making it harder for it to recover.

6.

Why is my water heater making a gurgling noise?

This is caused from sediment building up in the bottom of your tank. You can try hooking up a hose to the drain valve at the bottom of the tank and draining the tank till you see clear water. This will help release the sediment and hopefully take care of the situation. This may also be a sign that the heater is getting older and it no longer operating efficiently.

7.

My water heater will not stay lit

This is usually due to a bad thermo coupler or a faulty gas control valve. This may be a sign that you heater is older and it may be a good time to invest in a new one.

8.

Why is it important to inspect my sewer line?

It is very important to know what condition you sewer and drain system is in especially in older homes. This can help pre-determine problems and make the proper repairs on the system before they happen.

9.

What is an in-line inspection?

This is an inside look at you drain/sewer system. We use an inferred color camera and monitor to look at the system. This is a great to show and help you understand what is going on with your sewer/drain system.
