Should I Repair or Replace My Toilet?

To replace or to not replace your toilet?  That is the question!  Toilets are made to last in your home for years, but with just about everything else, these things will need some maintenance to get back up and working.  The plumbers at Bison Plumbing are here and always ready when your toilet leaks or needs some minor repairs done.

So you don’t waste your money on a full toilet replacement, we can demonstrate our expertise to get your current toilet back up and running again.  Let’s cover some of the things to remember about toilet repairs before you go to the store and buy a new one!

The toilet isn’t running as it should.  You used the toilet, you flushed, you hear the water flowing, and you move onto the next thing.  But, a couple of minutes go by, and you still hear water flowing in the toilet tank.  Not only is this annoying and inconvenient, but it can also hike your water bill up.  If you do some simple remedies and the toilet maintains this issue — for example, realigning the float ball — then there might be a hidden issue you need an experienced plumber to check out.

Flushing is obstructed.  Sure, you can get the plunger out and fix this issue pretty quickly.  But, if this is an ongoing issue, and your toilet experiences flushing issues often, then there might be another problem.  Things like a broken lift chain, a loose flapper valve, or even a clog deep within your pipes can cause this to happen.  If this is the latter situation, have Bison come inspect your drains and clear them out.

Water levels are noticeably low.  No matter what might have happened, your water levels in the tank of the toilet need to be consistent.  If you notice that there are lower fill levels than normal, it might be your shut-off valve.  Check this valve to make sure it isn’t closed.  Then, if the problem persists, your drains might have a clog deep inside them.  Again, drain cleaning is something we do best at Bison, so give us a call to have it fixed!

When you should consider a replacement.  Eventually, your old toilet is going to run into an issue after issue.  After years of repairs, or issues that just keep happening, it might be a sign that your toilet is ready to be replaced.  Plus, even more, serious issues, like cracks or scratches, can cause things like leaks and excess bacteria buildup, making for a bigger problem on your hands down the line.  Call the experts at Bison so we can inspect everything and install a new toilet in no time!
